The Bloch Cancer Foundation has funded construction and maintenance of Cancer Survivor Parks across the country in an effort to communicate a message of hope in dealing with cancer. The Kansas City park, in a high-traffic location on the Country Club Plaza, is the original and flagship location. The 2008 project to refurbish the park combines architecture, landscaping, public art and other elements to create a living tribute to cancer survival. In transforming the park, the design team brought a fresh, new look and functionality to this high-density neighborhood and advanced the main purpose of the park as a place that comforts and inspires. The design blends a more open layout, in-ground lighting, LED plaques and signing that reinforces the park's themes of comfort and encouragement.
