"Traditions and Transitions," the theme for the centennial celebration, is permanently marked on campus with the Centennial Garden. The objective of the garden is to feature commemorative elements relating to the university's history and tradition. The garden design focus was to establish a campus landmark that respects the campus mission as well as being a student interchange while linking the old and new areas on campus. The garden includes commemorative monuments, a striking metal "Bearclaw" arbor, interactive water garden, fire pit garden, waterfall, stone seating walls, informal boulder seating, lighting and an extensive landscape plan that contributes new tree species to the Missouri Arboretum, located on the Northwest Missouri State University campus.
