R.A. Bloch Cancer Survivors Parks
LOCATION:
Kansas City, Mo.
SIZE:
Approximately 2 Acres
The Bloch Cancer Foundation has funded construction and maintenance of Cancer Survivor Parks across the country in an effort to communicate a message of hope in dealing with cancer. The Kansas City park, in a high-traffic location on the famous Country Club Plaza, is the original and flagship location. The 2008 project to refurbish the park combines architecture, landscaping, public art and other elements to create a living tribute to cancer survival. In transforming the park, the design team brought a fresh, new look and functionality to this high-density neighborhood and advanced the main purpose of the park as a place that comforts and inspires. The design blends a more open layout, in-ground lighting, LED plaques and signing that reinforces the park’s themes of comfort and encouragement.
