Kansas City Kansas Public Schools Central Kitchen

The Kansas City, Kansas Public School District educates more than 14,000 students, with 100% of students qualifying for free meals. This new central kitchen will provide the daily food needs of the district’s 26 elementary schools, early childhood programs, and other catering. WSKF, together with Foodlines, developed the floor plan and design with district and Nutritional Services leaders to promote efficiency and workplace safety in providing the required large-scale food service. That process begins with six dock doors that accommodate tractor-trailers and commercial-grade delivery trucks and the flow of supplies through to the receiving area, warehouse, and cold and dry storage. Work and support areas include a large prep/baking/cookline area, ware wash, offices, and a staff locker room. Foodlines worked in close consultation with the district in specifying and laying out coolers, freezers, mixers, prep tables, sinks, ovens and ranges, transport carts, shelving, and other equipment needs.
