Lee’s Summit Fire Station No. 2
LOCATION:
Lee’s Summit, MO
SIZE:
8,905 SF
Lee’s Summit Fire Station No. 2 is a prime example of how selected applications of green design can make a new fire station highly sustainable while fulfilling its essential functions. The 8,905-SF satellite station features two drive-through apparatus bays, bunkrooms for eight, and a kitchen adjoined by a day room, fitness room, and training room. With the need for gender-neutral living quarters, each pair of bunkrooms shares a shower and restroom that provide full privacy. The materials and colors of the Cool Roof were carefully chosen to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the building. Inside the walls and roof, spray insulation helps keep heat and cold out and maintains comfortable temperatures inside. Since the rear of the station site is only about 75 feet from a busy state highway, special insulation also quiets the highway noise inside the station. The station also incorporates daylighting, recycled material in many of the building materials, and high-efficiency lighting.
