Corinth Elementary School

The existing elementary school was demolished to make room for the new school. The new school design blends the traditional material palette of red brick, cast stone and white trim with a contemporary image that reflects modern education. The design defines two distinct areas; the west area is a single story wing that encompasses the main entrances, administration offices, music room, cafeteria, stage and gymnasium and the east area is composed of a two story wing containing the media center and the classrooms. The “crown jewel” of the school is the media center. Through the creative use of glass block windows, this core space is attractively displayed to all who enter the lobby. The media center’s spatial quality is greatly enhanced by clerestory daylighting within the two story volume. Interior windows between the media center and the corridors capitalizes on this daylight, bringing borrowed light into the classroom circulation further reinforcing the important connection this space plays with classroom learning activities.
