Soon after voters approved formation of the new Westran Fire Protection District, staff and elected leaders began the financial and logistical planning for new facilities and equipment. The district provides fire and EMS services covering 160 square miles in the north-central Missouri county. While multi-station buildouts are normally a long-term undertaking for most fire agencies, Westran leadership sought to design and build a new headquarters station at Huntsville and smaller satellite stations at Darksville, Mt. Airy and Clifton Hill at once to meet the needs of their community. They turned to WSKF Architects in collaboration with McClure Engineering and other design partners. WSKF worked closely to design facility needs for the HQ and a satellite station prototype that could be built cost effectively in the three communities. The headquarters station is 9,955 sq. ft. with four drive-through bays, administrative offices and a large training room with classroom-style seating for about 60. To reinforce pride in service, just inside the main entrance two large display cases are filled with historical memorabilia and other material related to local fire service. The three satellite stations are 3,480 sq. ft. to house three apparatus bays, a workshop area and storage. The facilities were dedicated in mid-2018.
