WSKF Architects was commissioned to complete an assessment of Station No. 2, make recommendations to modernize the station and estimate construction costs. Station No. 2 serves an area in the north-central portion of this growing community of 131,000. WSKF completed departmental interviews, analyzed the existing station and its use, and benchmarked the station against current standards in fire station design. After the study, WSKF led a team in designing the needed modernization. Exterior improvements include new wall cladding, window replacements, a new roof and new skylights. Inside Station No. 2 the project provides a range of improvements. They include converting the dorm-style bunkroom to sleeping quarters offering more privacy, new ceilings and lighting, renovated locker and shower space, a new EMS office, expanded report writing area and other interior improvements. The project also provides new HVAC and other building system improvements. The result is a more functional fire station for the crews of Station No. 2 while extending the useful life of the station well into the future.
