Sioux Falls Fire & Police Training Master Plan

Leaders in this community of nearly 178,000 residents selected WSKF Architects to lead a multi-discipline team in completing an assessment and master plan of the City fire/police training campus. The team included WSKF Architects, Abercrombie Planning + Design, local/regional engineering partners and Emergency Services Consulting International, who handled a variety of public safety operational aspects. The existing campus includes a fire tower, classroom/administration building, search and rescue house training ground, driving pad, training props and a firing range. The project includes a comprehensive assessment of the facilities/campus to meet the long-term needs of Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Sioux Falls Police Dept. and other users. Modernization of the facility is to meet NFPA 1402 standards and support the City’s commitment to maintaining its ISO Class 1 rating. The WSKF team made recommendations for modernizing in place and assessed whether a new campus is a more cost effective approach to meeting the City’s goals for its use as a local and regional training facility. The team is developing preliminary designs, related costs and investigating scenarios for implementation of the recommendations.
