WSKF Expands Public Safety & Maintenance Facility Portfolio
WSKF Architects continues to expand its portfolio of public safety and maintenance facilities as local and regional clients turn to our firm for our in-depth expertise in these project types.
WSKF is leading the design team as part of a design-build project at Ft. Leavenworth to convert Building 320, a historic structure built in 1911, for use as the post military police and dispatch facility. The facility will house military police command and other staff, investigations, detainee processing and holding, training space, fitness area and other functions. The modernized space will total more than 19,000 square feet. Design requirements include LEED Silver certification and compliance with National Historic Landmark District Boundary standards.
The Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority Maintenance Facility will total 30,700 sq. ft. of renovated and expansion space in a building at 1300 Meadowlark Lane. The building will house maintenance and storage of the agency’s truck fleet, a large carpentry workshop and reconditioning of household appliances used in KCKHA’s housing stock of about 2,000 units. The design focuses on meeting those broad needs while helping improve operational efficiency and productivity.
In Fulton, Mo., WSKF has also designed a new headquarters and EMS station totaling 19,460 sq. ft. for Callaway County Ambulance District. The six-bay station houses all of the district’s administrative staff, bunk space for seven, dayroom, kitchen and dining area, fitness room, a training room that seats 60, a separate boardroom with seating for 20-25 and a simulation lab for EMS training scenarios. The project is under construction.
The total construction value of these projects is about $16 million.
As part of a larger team WSKF is also worked with the Casper, Wyo., Fire Department to evaluate the condition and suitability of the department’s headquarters and Station No. 1. The focus was on assessing the station in terms of meeting the department’s operational needs and broader fire service facility benchmarks. The study covered space and operational requirements, design options and probable costs for addressing the facility needs.
